About Shatavari Ghee

Experience the rich heritage of Ayurveda in each jar of our Shatavari Ghee.

Handcrafted in small batches in the USA, this luxurious blend begins with premium, grass-fed cultured butter gently infused with organic Shatavari Root — an ancient adaptogenic herb long revered in Ayurvedic tradition. Rooted in a family recipe dating back to 1896, it is prepared with the same commitment to purity, care, and traditional wisdom that has guided generations before us.

Minimally processed for integrity, our Shatavari Ghee contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or stabilizers. It is naturally gluten-free, nut-free, lactose-free, casein-free, and suitable for keto and paleo lifestyles.*

More than a substitute for regular butter or oil, this is a deeply nourishing kitchen staple shaped by heritage, craftsmanship, and Ayurvedic intelligence — crafted to bring deep flavor, richness, and purpose to every spoonful.

Flavor Profile

Delicately sweet, creamy, and smooth — with a soft, milky herbaceous flavor that reflects Shatavari’s nourishing, cooling nature. Gentle on the palate and soothing in warm preparations, it moves easily between sweet and savory: as welcome in a morning grains or golden milk as it is finishing roasted vegetables or a simple bowl of rice.

The flavor is subtle by design. It nourishes without announcing itself — the way the best ingredients always do.

Beneficial Ingredients & Qualities

Every ingredient in this formulation was chosen with intention: for its quality, its traditional significance, and the role it plays in making this more than just a cooking ingredient. Here is what goes into every jar, and why it matters.

Grass-Fed Cultured Butter:

The foundation of every ghee — chosen for its quality, its character, and its deep roots in traditional Ayurveda.

  • Cultured and fermented for superior digestibility: Unlike conventional butter, cultured butter is made from cream that has been fermented before churning — a process that breaks down heavier compounds and makes the resulting ghee easier to digest and absorb. In Ayurveda, this fermented base is considered essential: classical texts specify that ghee made from cultured dairy is better suited to serve as a carrier (yogavahi) — meaning it actively helps transport the therapeutic properties of herbs deeper into the body's tissues. This is what makes herbal ghee meaningfully different from plain ghee or infused oils.
  • Rich in nourishing fats and fat-soluble vitamins: Sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cows, this butter delivers a robust nutritional profile — including healthy saturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), along with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support everything from immune function to bone health to skin vitality.
  • High smoke point — versatile for everyday cooking: With a smoke point of 485°F, ghee remains stable at high heat without breaking down or producing harmful compounds — making it a cleaner, more versatile alternative to most cooking oils and conventional butter for sautéing, roasting, frying, and baking.
  • Naturally shelf-stable and virtually free of lactose and casein: The clarification process removes water and milk solids, leaving behind pure butterfat that is naturally shelf-stable at room temperature and contains almost no lactose or casein — making it a widely well-tolerated option even for those with dairy sensitivity.
  • A natural source of butyrate: Ghee is one of the richest dietary sources of butyrate — a short-chain fatty acid that research has linked to gut lining integrity, reduced intestinal inflammation, and a healthy immune response in the digestive tract.

Organic Shatavari Root (Asparagus racemosus):

One of Ayurveda's most revered herbs — a deeply nourishing tonic with thousands of years of traditional use and a growing body of modern research to support it.

  • Hormonal balance and vitality (traditional use): Shatavari is one of Ayurveda's most celebrated rasayanas — a class of deeply rejuvenative herbs traditionally used to restore vitality, replenish tissues, and support the body through times of transition and depletion. Though best known as a tonic for the feminine body, classical texts recognize Shatavari as a whole-body adaptogen with distinct benefits across all constitutions.

For women: In Ayurvedic tradition, Shatavari is revered as a primary herb for Shakti — supporting the feminine body through every stage of life, from menstruation and fertility through pregnancy, postpartum replenishment, and the transition of menopause. Its cooling, nourishing qualities are traditionally understood to soothe hormonal fluctuations and restore depleted tissues.

Modern research supports this: Shatavari contains steroidal saponins — including compounds known as shatavarins — studied for their role in supporting hormonal balance, menstrual regularity, and reproductive wellness, including traditional applications for fertility support and lactation.

For men: Ayurveda places Shatavari among the herbs used to nourish reproductive tissue (shukra dhatu) and cultivate Ojas — the vital essence associated with stamina, resilience, and sustained energy.

Modern research mirrors this: Shatavari has been studied for its potential to support healthy testosterone levels, sperm motility, and male reproductive health, as well as its broader adaptogenic effects on hormonal resilience under stress.

Shatavari nourishes at the root — regardless of where you are in life, or who you are.

  • A true adaptogen — for stress, resilience, and sustained energy: Adaptogens are a class of herbs that help the body regulate its response to physical and mental stress — not by stimulating or sedating, but by supporting the body's own balancing mechanisms. Shatavari is one of Ayurveda's primary adaptogens, traditionally prescribed to rebuild strength after illness, exhaustion, or depletion. Research suggests it may support the adrenal system, helping moderate the hormonal cascade triggered by chronic stress.
  • Antioxidant protection at the cellular level: Shatavari is rich in naturally occurring antioxidants — including flavonoids and saponins — that help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress in the body. In Ayurvedic terms, this is part of what makes it a rasayana: a substance that protects and regenerates at the deepest tissue levels, supporting longevity and vitality from the inside out.
  • Gentle digestive support: In Ayurveda, Shatavari is considered cooling and demulcent — meaning it has a naturally soothing, coating quality that calms irritation and supports the lining of the digestive tract. It is traditionally used to ease occasional digestive discomfort, acidity, and gut inflammation. This quality makes it particularly well-suited to a ghee base, which shares many of the same digestive properties.
  • Respiratory comfort (traditional use): Shatavari has been used in classical Ayurvedic formulas to soothe the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract — easing mild throat irritation, supporting healthy breathing, and calming dryness or inflammation in the airways. This application aligns with its known demulcent and anti-inflammatory qualities.

Ayurvedic Tradition

Shatavari holds a rare place in the classical Ayurvedic canon — not merely as a remedy for specific conditions, but as one of a small group of herbs considered foundational to long-term vitality and resilience for the whole person.

Classical texts place it among the most important of all rasayanas: substances that, taken consistently and with care, support the progressive restoration and protection of the body's deepest tissues. Where many herbs are prescribed situationally, Shatavari is considered a sustaining tonic — one that works quietly over time, filling in what depletion, stress, and the passage of seasons have drawn out.

In Ayurvedic physiology, ghee holds a foundational role: it is understood to kindle agni (the digestive fire that governs how well the body processes and absorbs what it takes in) and to actively support dhatu formation, the progressive building and refinement of the body's seven tissue layers. These are not peripheral benefits. In classical Ayurvedic understanding, the health of agni and the quality of the dhatus are considered the two primary pillars of long-term vitality. A food that supports both is considered among the most valuable & nourishing a person can consume.

Shatavari, in Sanskrit, is often translated as "she who possesses a hundred spouses" — a reference not to romance, but to the herb's extraordinary capacity for renewal. In classical understanding, it is a plant of abundance: one that replenishes what has been exhausted, stabilizes what has become scattered, and nourishes what has grown thin.

In its traditional pairing with ghee, that capacity deepens further. Ghee's role as a yogavahi, a substance that carries and amplifies what it is combined with, means that Shatavari, infused into cultured ghee, reaches the body in a form that classical Ayurveda considered among the most bioavailable and tissue-penetrating available. This is not a modern formulation concept. It is the way these two ingredients have been used together for centuries.

What Sets Us Apart

We don’t just make products — we preserve a legacy.

Every aspect of what we do reflects our commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, intention, integrity, and Ayurvedic tradition

  • We use cultured butter — most don’t.
Made from traditionally fermented cream, cultured butter enhances both flavor and digestibility — giving a smoother texture and richer, more complex character than versions made with sweet cream or mass-produced alternatives.

From an Ayurvedic standpoint, this choice is deeply rooted in tradition. Classical preparation of ghee begins with cultured dairy because fermentation transforms the heavier, cooler qualities of cream into something more refined and bioavailable — making ghee better suited to serve as a yogavahi/anupana: a carrier that amplifies and transports the therapeutic properties of herbs into the body's deeper tissues, or dhatus. This is what makes herbal ghee so much more than the sum of its ingredients.

The butter we use begins on small farms where cows graze freely and live with dignity. We support partners who uphold high standards for animal well-being — from humane treatment to the ability to express natural behaviors. This respect for life honors both the integrity of our ingredients and the spirit of Ayurveda itself.

It's a difference you can taste — and feel.

  • Certified organic botanicals, chosen for potency and purity.
Every herbal ingredient is USDA certified organic, sustainably sourced, and carefully selected to preserve its natural vitality. We use whole herbs — never extracts or flavor oils — and gently infuse them, following traditional methods that respect their energetic and therapeutic properties.

  • Every botanical is rigorously tested.
Each herb is verified not just for its traditional value, but for its purity. Our trusted partners uphold rigorous safety standards, and every botanical undergoes third-party testing against strict thresholds for pesticides, microbes, and heavy metals.

  • Handcrafted in small batches.
We prepare each blend by hand in small batches, with the time and attention that allows us to maintain the highest standards of freshness, consistency, and care at every step of the process.

Our herbal ghee alone takes the better part of a full day: from the slow clarification to the careful herbal infusion that brings each batch to its ideal color, clarity, and aroma. That kind of time investment is increasingly rare — but for us, it is essential. Because when a product is made to nourish deeply, every step matters.

  • Rooted in Lineage.
Our formulas draw directly from a family tradition of Ayurvedic practice spanning more than 200 years — including generations of classically trained physicians, educators, and healers. This is not Ayurveda as aesthetic or trend. It is Ayurveda as inheritance: carried forward through family, discipline, and devotion — and handcrafted with that same care since 1896. Every jar reflects that depth.
