About Our Traditional Ghee

Experience the rich heritage of Ayurveda in its purest form with our Traditional Ghee.

Before the herbs. Before the blends. Before anything else — there is ghee.

This is where our practice began: a single, perfected ingredient, prepared the way it has always been prepared in our family — slowly, intentionally, and with care that cannot be rushed. No additions, no enhancements, nothing to prove. Just cultured butter transformed through a classical Ayurvedic process into something the tradition has considered foundational nourishment for thousands of years.

Handcrafted in small batches in the USA, our Traditional Ghee is made exclusively from premium grass-fed cultured butter — clarified using the same slow, time-honored method our family has carried forward since 1896.

Minimally processed for integrity, our Traditional Ghee contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or stabilizers. It is naturally gluten-free, nut-free, lactose-free, casein-free, and suitable for keto and paleo lifestyles.*

More than a substitute for regular butter or oil, this is a deeply nourishing kitchen staple shaped by heritage, craftsmanship, and Ayurvedic intelligence — crafted to bring deep flavor, richness, and purpose to every spoonful.

Flavor Profile

Rich, golden, and deeply nutty — with the characteristic warmth and complexity that only cultured ghee can offer. Where conventional ghee can taste flat or one-dimensional, ours opens with a clean, rounded butteriness and deepens into something toasted and slightly sweet, with a long, smooth finish that lingers without heaviness. The cultured base adds a subtle, almost imperceptible tang that rounds the flavor and gives it a depth that conventional ghee simply does not have.

It is extraordinarily versatile — equally at home in a simple bowl of rice, a morning egg, a roasted vegetable, or stirred into warm milk at the end of the day.

Pure by design. Extraordinary by nature.

Beneficial Ingredients & Qualities

Every ingredient in this formulation was chosen with intention: for its quality, its traditional significance, and the role it plays in making this more than just a cooking ingredient. Here is what goes into every jar, and why it matters.

Grass-Fed Cultured Butter

The single, powerful ingredient at the heart of every ghee we make — and a formulation complete entirely on its own.

  • Cultured and fermented for superior digestibility: Unlike conventional butter, cultured butter is made from cream that has been fermented before churning — a process that breaks down heavier compounds and makes the resulting ghee easier to digest and absorb. In Ayurveda, this fermented base is considered essential: classical texts specify that ghee made from cultured dairy is better suited to serve as a carrier (yogavahi) — meaning it actively helps transport nutrients and the therapeutic properties of any herbs or foods consumed alongside it deeper into the body's tissues. This is what makes cultured ghee meaningfully different from ghee made with conventional sweet cream.
  • Rich in nourishing fats and fat-soluble vitamins: Sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cows, this butter delivers a robust nutritional profile — including healthy saturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), along with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support everything from immune function to bone health to skin vitality. Grass-fed sourcing meaningfully increases the concentration of these nutrients compared to conventionally raised dairy — a difference that is both tasted and felt.
  • High smoke point — versatile for every cooking method: With a smoke point of 485°F, ghee remains stable at high heat without breaking down or producing harmful compounds — making it one of the cleanest, most versatile cooking fats available. Unlike most cooking oils, which oxidize and degrade under high heat, ghee holds its integrity through sautéing, roasting, frying, baking, and everything in between.
  • Naturally shelf-stable and virtually free of lactose and casein: The clarification process removes water and milk solids, leaving behind pure butterfat that is naturally shelf-stable at room temperature and contains almost no lactose or casein — making it a widely well-tolerated option even for those with dairy sensitivity. This is not a processed or stripped product — it is butter in its most refined and bioavailable form, exactly as classical Ayurvedic preparation intended.
  • A natural source of butyrate: Ghee is one of the richest dietary sources of butyrate — a short-chain fatty acid that research has linked to gut lining integrity, reduced intestinal inflammation, and a healthy immune response in the digestive tract. Butyrate is also produced naturally by beneficial gut bacteria, and dietary butyrate from ghee is understood to complement and support this internal production.
  • Supports digestive fire and tissue nourishment. In Ayurveda, ghee is one of the primary foods for kindling agni — the digestive fire that governs how well the body processes, absorbs, and transforms what it takes in. A well-supported agni is considered the foundation of sustained health in classical Ayurvedic understanding. Ghee is also traditionally used to support dhatu formation — the progressive building and nourishment of the body's seven tissue layers, from plasma to reproductive tissue — making it one of the most foundational foods in the entire Ayurvedic tradition.

Ayurvedic Tradition

In Ayurveda, ghee is not simply a cooking fat. It is a medicine, a carrier, a rejuvenative — and among the most revered substances in the entire classical pharmacopoeia.

The Charaka Samhita, one of Ayurveda's foundational texts, describes ghee as one of the best of all snehas — unctuous, lubricating substances essential to health and longevity. It is classified as sattvic: a food that cultivates clarity, calm, and intelligence in both the body and the mind. Classical texts describe it as rasayana in quality — meaning it works progressively over time, nourishing and protecting the body's deepest tissues rather than producing quick or superficial effects.

Ghee is understood in Ayurvedic physiology to kindle agni — the digestive fire considered the body's most essential force — while simultaneously being gentle enough not to aggravate it. This paradox is central to ghee's classical reputation: it is warming without overheating, nourishing without heaviness, lubricating without congesting. It is considered especially balancing for Vata and Pitta constitutions, and beneficial for all three doshas when used in appropriate amounts.

Its classical designation as a yogavahi — a carrier substance that enhances and transports the properties of whatever it is combined with — means that ghee consumed alongside any food, herb, or medicine deepens that substance's effect in the body. This is not a passive quality. Classical physicians considered this active carrier function one of ghee's most therapeutically significant properties, and it is why ghee appears as the base or vehicle in a vast number of classical Ayurvedic formulations across every category of treatment.

What makes our Traditional Ghee distinctive within this tradition is its cultured butter foundation — a detail that is not incidental. The classical preparation of ghee in the Charaka Samhita specifies beginning with dadhi — fermented cultured curd — as the starting material. The fermentation process is understood to refine and elevate the qualities of the fat, making it more bioavailable, more digestively supportive, and better suited to the yogavahi function that defines ghee's therapeutic role. Most commercial ghees today begin with sweet cream, bypassing this step entirely. Ours does not.

This is ghee prepared the way the tradition always intended — and the difference, as our family has known for generations, is one you can taste.

What Sets Us Apart

We don’t just make products — we preserve a legacy.

Every aspect of what we do reflects our commitment to authenticity, craftsmanship, intention, integrity, and Ayurvedic tradition

  • We use cultured butter — most don’t.
Made from traditionally fermented cream, cultured butter enhances both flavor and digestibility — giving a smoother texture and richer, more complex character than versions made with sweet cream or mass-produced alternatives.

From an Ayurvedic standpoint, this choice is deeply rooted in tradition. Classical preparation of ghee begins with cultured dairy because fermentation transforms the heavier, cooler qualities of cream into something more refined and bioavailable — making ghee better suited to serve as a yogavahi/anupana: a carrier that amplifies and transports the therapeutic properties of herbs into the body's deeper tissues, or dhatus. This is what makes our ghee meaningfully different from conventional offerings.

The butter we use begins on small farms where cows graze freely and live with dignity. We support partners who uphold high standards for animal well-being — from humane treatment to the ability to express natural behaviors. This respect for life honors both the integrity of our ingredients and the spirit of Ayurveda itself.

It's a difference you can taste — and feel.

  • Handcrafted in small batches.
We prepare each blend by hand in small batches, with the time and attention that allows us to maintain the highest standards of freshness, consistency, and care at every step of the process.

A single batch of our Traditional Ghee takes the better part of a full day: from the slow clarification that brings the butter to its ideal clarity and golden color, to the careful attention to aroma and texture that tells an experienced hand when it is exactly right. That kind of time investment is increasingly rare — but for us, it is essential. Because when a product is made to nourish deeply, every step matters.

  • Rooted in Lineage.
Our formulas draw directly from a family tradition of Ayurvedic practice spanning more than 200 years — including generations of classically trained physicians, educators, and healers. This is not Ayurveda as aesthetic or trend. It is Ayurveda as inheritance: carried forward through family, discipline, and devotion — and handcrafted with that same care since 1896. Every jar reflects that depth.

Recommended Use

Use Traditional Ghee as a nourishing substitute for butter or oil across every application — cooking, baking, roasting, frying, and spreading. With its high smoke point it is excellent for sautéing vegetables, frying eggs, roasting meats and grains, and finishing soups and stews with a spoonful of richness. Spread it warm on fresh bread or flatbread. Stir it into rice, dal, or warm milk. Use it wherever butter belongs — and in many places butter does not.

In Ayurvedic practice, a small amount of ghee taken daily is considered one of the most accessible and sustainable ways to support digestive health, agni, and overall vitality. Begin with what feels right and let the tradition speak for itself.

Best enjoyed as part of a mindful, nourishing diet — the way it was always meant to be.

Crafted with no artificial ingredients or preservatives, our product is minimally processed for purity. Due to the lack of additive stabilizers, natural separation may occur.

Please stir thoroughly before use.

Store at room temperature. Keep moisture out to preserve freshness. Always use a clean, dry utensil for each use.
